TRIP – Chickohominy Lake – Eagles Landing
My good friend – and expert fishing guide – Art Conway suggested that I try Eagles Landing on Chickohominy Lake for the maiden voyage of my newest kayak. He wasn’t wrong!
The lake is a short 20 minute drive from Richmond, just below Providence Forge on Route 60. The lake is also near Lenexa and is a short drive from Williamsburg. Eagles Landing was very quiet on this hot Wednesday afternoon. The sign on the door said “Gone Fishin!” so I left the $8.00 launch fee in the door; unloaded the boat and parked the truck.
This was exactly what I needed as I set up the new boat for a three hour cruise. Unlike Gilligan, I had a pleasant and uneventful paddle around the lake. The day was very hot, but I was able to pull into some shade trees as needed for rest and refreshment. There was a relatively cool breeze across the lake that afternoon. The boat performed well on this calm lake which gave me a chance to test it’s initial and secondary stability. I also made some adjustments to the bungee cord rigging and the adjustable foot rests.
