TRIP – Mattaponi River / York River
The little town of West Point sits in the “V” where the Mattaponi and Pamunkey Rivers join to form the York River. The water is brackish here, and becomes tidal salt-water in the York.

This public boat landing has a very large parking area – both for cars/trucks with trailers – and without. Parking should not be a problem on weekends and holidays. There were a few trucks there when I stopped in on a very hot Tuesday afternoon.

There is also a dock just up from the boat ramp for quick tie-ups to load or unload.

In addition to the public boat landing, there are 4 kayak launch sites spread around the town.

With so many launch points, it will take a few trips to really explore this area by kayak.
The town has a number of good restaurants, shops and a grocery store in case you need anything. There is a small motel if you plan to stay a few days.
You know what they say: The croakers are biting in West Point! Take a paddle out there soon and find out for yourself. Don’t forget your fishing license!
